Funerals
Working with you to create a funeral or celebration of life ceremony
When someone you love dies, finding the right words can feel impossible. I begin by creating a calm, private space where you can tell me about the person you are remembering — the small, ordinary details as well as the big moments. I listen without hurry, asking gentle questions that help memories and meaning surface. My aim is to understand who they were, what mattered to them, and how you want them to be remembered.
Listening with care
I meet with families in whatever way feels easiest — at home, at the Funeral Directors, by phone, or online. In our conversations I focus on:
· Your stories: the moments that make you smile, laugh, or pause.
· The tone you want whether you prefer quiet reflection, celebration, humour, or a blend.
· Practical wishes: music, readings, photographs, and any rituals that feel important.
Everything you share is treated with respect and discretion. I take careful notes, so nothing is lost between our conversations and the final service.
Co-creating the ceremony
I don’t write a script in isolation. I draft a ceremony based on what you’ve told me, then we shape it together. That process includes:
· A clear structure so guests know what to expect and the service flows naturally.
· Personal language that uses your words, memories, and the tone you chose.
· Meaningful elements such as readings, poems, music cues, and symbolic acts that reflect the life being honoured.
You can review and revise the draft as many times as you need. My role is to translate your memories into words that feel true and comforting.
Writing the words
If you find it hard to speak in front of others, I will be your voice. I can write tributes or introductions on your behalf, using your voice and the details you’ve shared. I aim for language that is honest and accessible — not ornate for its own sake but shaped to hold the feeling of the moment. Where families want to speak, I help them prepare short, meaningful contributions so they feel supported and confident.
Practical support on the day
On the day of the service, I take care of the running order and liaise with the venue, I arrive early, check timings, and guide the ceremony with calm presence so everyone can focus on remembering and supporting one another. If plans change, I adapt quietly and respectfully.
What you can expect
· Compassionate listening from our first conversation to the final farewell.
· A ceremony that reflects the person — their humour, values, and relationships.
· Clear communication and practical coordination so the day runs smoothly.
· Help preparing anyone who wishes to speak.
· A written copy of the ceremony for you to keep
If you would like a ceremony that honours a life with honesty, warmth, and care, I will listen, write, and stand with you through every step.
